Pío Pico State Historic ParkEl Ranchito, the adobe Pío Pico built beside the San Gabriel River and lived in until 1892, after serving as the last Mexican governor of Alta California. Thirteen acres with a fifteen-room adobe, a beehive bread oven and a dovecote still standing. Admission is free and a ranger will walk you through the house on weekends without an appointment.

El Atacor #2A twenty-four hour taqueria on Whittier Boulevard, part of the small El Atacor group that Angelenos know for the fried potato taco. There is a drive-thru where somebody walks out to your car to take the order, and a walk-up window for everyone else. Asada, carnitas and the potato taco with a green salsa. Nothing about it closes, which is the feature.
