Shape The Day

Before

Art Theatre of Long Beach

short ride recommended · 8 min - Long Beach

A 1925 cinema on 4th Street that opened as the Carter and has been showing pictures under one name or another ever since. It is the oldest working movie house in Long Beach and the only independent one left, run as a nonprofit with a membership. Programming runs indie and foreign releases plus repertory and festival nights, and matinees start around noon on weekends. The marquee and the neon are the originals.

4:00 PM · Dreamstate

After

The Blind Donkey

short ride recommended · 5 min - Long Beach

A dark bar on the ground floor of the BroadLind Hotel on Linden, a block and a half off Broadway. The list is long on American whiskey and the house drink is an Old Fashioned made without ceremony. Seating is benches and a few tables, and the volume stays low enough to talk. It opens at five and runs to two every night of the week, which is rare in downtown Long Beach.
