Jonathan Gold put it on his 99 Essential Restaurants list when he was at LA Weekly. The setting is plain and the portions are not.

Zankou ChickenThe Iskenderian family opened their first Los Angeles branch here at Sunset and Normandie in 1984, twenty-two years after the original in Beirut. Rotisserie chicken, shawarma and the garlic sauce the place is known for, ordered at a counter in a mini-mall. It runs to midnight every night.
