El CompadreDavid Castro and Mario Jimenez opened this on Sunset in 1975 and it still runs on red vinyl booths and a mariachi trio working the floor most nights. The house margarita comes to the table on fire. Combination plates arrive fast and the bar does not slow down for anybody.

Tower BarThe ground-floor apartment Bugsy Siegel lived in, inside the 1929 Art Deco Sunset Tower. It runs as a restaurant and bar with a dress code enforced at the door and a standing rule against phones and photographs. Sunday dinner is for hotel guests only.
