The house line is that every sandwich is a work of Art, which tells you the register. Rafael Vega opened this on Ventura Boulevard in 1956 and his daughter Christy runs it now. The interior is deliberately dim, with red vinyl booths, Christmas lights and paintings covering the walls, and the bar is the part people mean when they talk about it. The James Beard Foundation named it an America's Classic in 2022. The kitchen does the combination plates the Valley grew up on and the margaritas are the reason the bar is three deep on a Friday.
