Encino, in San Fernando Valley
Laemmle Town Center 5
Cinema · 17200 Ventura Blvd
Five Laemmle screens downstairs in the Encino Town Center mall, on the south side of Ventura Boulevard, running the chain's subtitled and independent bookings in the Valley.
The cinema is inside a shopping center rather than on the street, so the entrance is through the mall and some of the audience was already there. What plays is not mall programming: recent bookings have included a Latvian film screened with Russian subtitles and no English option at all.
Laemmle Theatres has operated since 1938 on a stated commitment to quality film without regard to genre or provenance, and the Encino venue often shares a title's opening week with the chain's West LA cinema rather than waiting for it to move over.
