Echo Park LakeA city lake with a lotus bed that blooms in summer, a fountain in the middle and a path all the way around. Wheel Fun Rentals runs swan-shaped pedal boats from the boathouse on the east side, one hour at a time. Walking the loop costs nothing.

After
The Short StopA bar at 1455 Sunset that opened in 1940 and spent decades as an LAPD hangout before a group of entertainers bought it in 2001. The storefront had been a furrier and taxidermy shop in the late 1920s. Cheap drinks, pool tables and a DJ most nights.
