East West Players
Theater · 120 Judge John Aiso St
East West Players has been producing Asian American theater since 1965, with its Little Tokyo stage serving as both a professional house and an artist-development base.
Nine artists founded the company to create opportunities beyond the stereotyped roles then available in Hollywood. Its early rehearsals and performances were held in a church basement.
East West Players moved into the 240-seat David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts in 1998. The building began as Union Church, erected in 1923.
