North Hollywood, in San Fernando Valley
El Portal Theatre
Theatre · 5269 Lankershim Blvd
El Portal turns a former vaudeville and silent-film house into three North Hollywood stages for plays, musicals, comedy and dance.
Built in 1926, the complex reopened after redevelopment in 2000. Its largest auditorium is the 360-seat Debbie Reynolds MainStage, with the smaller Monroe Forum offering a more compact setting.
A three-sided marquee faces Lankershim Boulevard. Inside, the Judith Kaufman Art Gallery and lobby pub give audiences places to spend time before the curtain and during intermission.
