Atwater Village, in Northeast L.A.
Echo Theater Company
Theater · 3269 Casitas Ave
The Echo develops new American plays, giving audiences a chance to meet a script before it acquires a long production history.
Founded in 1996, the company supports writers through commissions, productions and free readings. Its playwrights lab began in 2000, and a separate program pairs young writers with professional mentors.
Performances take place at the shared Atwater Village theater complex on Casitas Avenue. Several companies work there, so look for the Echo's entrance; general-admission seating is standard.
