Miracle Mile, in Central L.A.
FILM at LACMA
Cinema · 5905 Wilshire Blvd
Film programming run by the county art museum on Wilshire, where a screening is booked to sit alongside what is currently hanging in the galleries.
LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States, and it shows films on site rather than farming the work out to a cinema elsewhere. Series tend to be built around an artist, a country or a period instead of a release date.
The museum states an aim of showing art from new and unexpected points of view, informed by the region's cultural heritage and population, and the film calendar follows that brief more closely than it follows distribution schedules.
Because the program answers to a museum rather than a box office, the choices are curatorial. A restoration with no commercial life left can get a screening on the grounds that it belongs next to an exhibition.
