Pacific Palisades, in Westside
Getty Villa Outdoor Theater
Amphitheater · 17985 Pacific Coast Highway
Greek and Roman drama has an unusually literal setting at the Getty Villa: an outdoor theater modeled on ancient examples.
The 450-seat Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater faces the museum, with stone benches arranged in a semicircle. The architecture makes the hillside part of the audience's view.
The surrounding Pacific Palisades campus houses Greek and Roman antiquities in a re-created Roman country house. Gardens and galleries give a performance here a larger setting than the stage alone.
