The Academy Awards were handed out here for ten years, and a renovation at the turn of this century took the Hollywood Boulevard theater back to its 1930 look.

The building opened as a movie house with live vaudeville acts between features, and it hosted premieres and spectaculars before it settled into touring theater. It is now Broadway in Hollywood's main stage, and the five highest-grossing weeks in Los Angeles theater history all happened here.

Comedy turns up occasionally and at scale, since the house is sized for a touring musical rather than for a club bill. It stands on the north side of Hollywood Boulevard just past Argyle, and it doubles as a filming location for television and music videos.
