The Laemmle cinema in Glendale, on the northwest corner of Maryland and Wilson, booking independent and foreign-language film a block east of Brand.

Laemmle Theatres was established in 1938 by Kurt and Max Laemmle, nephews of Universal Pictures founder Carl Laemmle, and the company is run now by Robert Laemmle and his son Greg.

The chain's stated commitment is to show quality film without regard to genre or provenance, which in practice means subtitles and small American releases that never open wide. Glendale gets that programming first-run rather than as a revival strand months later.
