Linwood Dunn Theater
Cinema · 1313 Vine St
The Academy's own theater on Vine, inside the Pickford Center, with 35mm and 70mm projection sitting beside the digital chain.
The Pickford Center is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences archive building, and the theater inside it was finished in 2003. It is named for Linwood Dunn, the visual effects cinematographer whose optical printer work runs through decades of studio film. The projection was specified for the archive own prints, which is why film formats are still a working part of the booth rather than an occasional event.
This is not a cinema with a daily schedule. Programming comes in runs, often a festival or an Academy series, so there is no point turning up on spec. The house seats 286, four of those wheelchair spaces, and the screen opens to 42 feet.
