Will Geer's refuge from the Hollywood blacklist became a Topanga theater where Shakespeare shares the grounds with folk music.
Geer and Herta Ware supported their family by growing vegetables on the property, which also welcomed other blacklisted performers. The family established the nonprofit in 1973.
The hillside amphitheater now anchors a repertory season, with concerts and family programming elsewhere on the calendar. The grounds allow picnicking before performances, making the canyon landscape part of the visit.
