A bagel and pizza counter on Washington Avenue, feeding the warehouse trade that surrounds it. It opens at half past five in the morning and is finished by half past one in the afternoon, and it does not open at the weekend at all. When it is open it is the only thing you can reach from the door of Meadowlands Comedy Club without crossing anything.

Five and a half acres on the west bank of the Hackensack River, with a promenade, picnic tables, a paddling and fishing dock, a boat ramp and a small marina. The site was part of a wartime seaplane base and later a restaurant called the Barge Club before the state opened it as a park in 2008. It is free, it is open dawn to dusk, and there is nothing to arrange.

A Spanish kitchen on the north stretch of Washington Avenue doing tapas, paella and plancha seafood, with a bar you can eat at and a happy hour on the board. It opens at noon every day, which is unusual out here, and runs to half past ten on Friday and Saturday. This is the nearest sit-down meal to Meadowlands Comedy Club that is not the building the club is in.

An Italian bakery and café on Hackensack Street in the older part of Carlstadt, family-run for more than twenty years, doing cannoli, biscotti, custom cakes and espresso. It is on the borough's own main street rather than out in the warehouse grid, so there are other storefronts on either side of it. It closes at five and does not open on Monday.

A Carlstadt brewery with a bar attached, pouring its own beer and the Broad Street hard seltzers it makes alongside. It sits on a side street in the industrial grid rather than on a main street, so you are walking past loading bays to get there. It stays open to ten Thursday through Saturday, nine on Wednesday and eight at the start and end of the week.

A family-run Italian restaurant at the top of Washington Avenue doing pasta, veal and seafood, set up for big tables and used to them. It serves until ten Monday through Friday, which makes it one of very few kitchens near Meadowlands Comedy Club still going after an evening show. The weekend starts later, at three on Saturday and two on Sunday.

A diner on the Route 17 frontage in Carlstadt running the standard Jersey card of breakfast all day, burgers and platters. It used to stay open around the clock and no longer does, so the evening close is the thing to check before you count on it. Seven in the morning is the open every day of the week.
