Before
American Folk Art Museum
Free museum

A single floor of self-taught American art on Columbus Avenue, free every day it opens. The collection runs to quilts and weathervanes. Portraits by painters who never trained hang near the drawings of Henry Darger. You can walk the whole thing in forty minutes.

Wed to Sun, 11:30am to 6pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday

Brasserie Boulud
French brasserie

Daniel Boulud's brasserie across Broadway from Lincoln Center, opening on September 17, 2026 in the combined space that held Bar Boulud, Boulud Sud and Épicerie Boulud until they closed in July 2025. Two floors and more than ten thousand square feet, designed by the Rockwell Group, with express menus planned around curtain times.

Not yet published. The restaurant opens September 17, 2026

Museum of Arts and Design
Craft and design museum

Four floors of contemporary craft in the Edward Durell Stone building on the south side of Columbus Circle, reclad by Brad Cloepfil and reopened in 2008. The collection is glass, clay, metal and fiber rather than painting, and artists work in open studios on the sixth floor. Wednesday is the long day, open until eight.

Tue, Thu to Sun, 10am to 6pm. Wed, noon to 8pm. Closed Monday. Pay-what-you-wish 5pm to 8pm on the first Wednesday of the month, in person only

Pier i Cafe
Riverside counter

An outdoor counter at the end of a pier in Riverside Park South, with tables facing the Hudson and New Jersey behind it. You order at the window and take whatever table is free. It runs from May to the middle of October and shuts for the winter.

Seasonal, May to mid-October. Daily 8:30am to 10pm, with a coffee window from 8:30am and the full menu from 11:30am

Shun Lee West
Chinese dining hall

A black-lacquer dining hall on 65th Street with gold dragons running the length of the ceiling, opened in the early 1980s and barely touched since. The attached Shun Lee Cafe does dim sum. It has been the answer to where to eat before a Lincoln Center curtain for forty years and the menu has not chased anything.

Daily, noon to 10pm

After
Malachy's Donegal Inn
Irish pub

A small pub on 72nd Street a block from Strawberry Fields, trading under this name since 1989 and as the Blarney Castle before that. Wood bar, a few tables, televisions on for whatever is playing. It opens at noon and runs to two in the morning most nights.

Mon to Sat, noon to 2am. Sun, noon to 1am
