Before
Grosik Polish Delicatessen
Polish deli

A Polish counter on Fresh Pond Road that opens at five in the morning for the tradesmen, selling smoked meat, kielbasa and prepared food to take away. This is the Polish Maspeth that has been here far longer than anything on Flushing Avenue.

Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 5am to 7pm, Thursday and Friday 5am to 8pm, Sunday 8am to 4pm

La Parrillada Colombiana
Colombian grill

A Colombian grill on Metropolitan doing paisa platters, arepas and grilled meat, with a bar attached. It opens at 9am and runs to 11pm. On this stretch of Metropolitan that combination does not exist anywhere else.

Sunday to Thursday 9am to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 11:30pm

Maspeth Diner
Queens diner

A working diner on Grand Avenue with a counter, booths and the full three-meal menu. It opens at seven in the morning every day and closes at seven in the evening, which is the opposite shape of most diners and the thing to know before you plan around it. Mondays it shuts at four. It is the plainest option in Maspeth and also the only one open at breakfast.

Sun and Tue to Sat, 7am to 7pm. Mon, 7am to 4pm

Stanley's Pierogi
Pierogi shop

Pierogi made on the premises since 1991 and sold over the counter, with around fifteen fillings on any given day. They supply shops around Queens and the retail counter is the same product. It is takeout, not a place to sit.

Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 3pm. Closed Sunday

Vander Ende-Onderdonk House
Colonial stone house and grounds

The oldest Dutch colonial stone house in New York City, part of it built in 1709, standing on Flushing Avenue with a yard around it. The Greater Ridgewood Historical Society runs it as a museum and opens it on weekends. The stone marking the old Brooklyn and Queens boundary line sits on the property.

Saturday and Sunday noon to 5pm. Closed Monday to Friday

After
O'Neill's Maspeth
Old Irish-American restaurant and bar

Open on 53rd Drive since December 5, 1933 and owned by the same family the whole time. The front is a long bar and the back is a dining space of booths doing steaks, oysters and shrimp alongside standard bar food. Saturday brunch is the thing the kitchen makes noise about. The bar runs to one in the morning most nights and to half past three on Friday and Saturday, which makes it the only thing in Maspeth still open after a late show.

Daily, 11am to 1am. Fri and Sat to 3:30am. Kitchen closes at 10pm, 11pm Fri and Sat
