7 stopsA 1920s bank building on Mamaroneck Avenue that the county arts council turned into a gallery, keeping the marble and the vaulted ceiling. Exhibitions change a few times a year and lean toward regional artists rather than blue-chip names. Admission is free and nobody expects you to stay an hour.
Tue to Fri, 12pm to 5pm. Sat, 12pm to 6pm. Closed Sun and Mon
A family pizzeria that has been on Mamaroneck Avenue for more than twenty-five years, working from recipes the family describes as four generations deep. The dough is made in-house every morning and the pizza comes out of a wood-fired oven. There is a proper dining area behind the counter, so you can sit down with a plate of pasta rather than eat a slice standing up.
Daily, 11am to 11pm
A brick plaza off Main Street with a fountain, seating and a run of shade trees, wedged between the office towers and the shopping district. There is a greenmarket on it most Wednesdays in season and a stage that gets used for free summer concerts. The rest of the time it is simply somewhere to sit outside downtown that is not a parking structure.
Open daily, dawn to dusk
A café on Mamaroneck Avenue that gives all of its profit to local charities, which is the whole reason it exists rather than a line on a chalkboard. The coffee is Rainforest Alliance certified and the pastry comes in from New York bakeries. There is a counter of gourmet truffles and bulk candy on the way out.
Mon to Fri, 7am to 6pm. Sat and Sun, 8am to 6pm
A big open library on Martine Avenue with a café inside it, a gallery that hangs local work and a trove of Westchester local history on the upper floor. There are tables you can sit at for an hour without buying anything and a program calendar that runs author talks and film screenings. The children's library is genuinely one of the better ones in the county.
Mon to Thu, 10am to 9pm. Fri and Sat, 10am to 6pm. Sun, 1pm to 5pm
A long dark storefront halfway down Mamaroneck Avenue that has been pouring since 1994, with around fifty rotating drafts and a bottle list past a hundred and fifty. The kitchen runs wings and prime burgers well past midnight. It opens at 11:30 in the morning, which means it is as available before an afternoon set as it is when a late one lets out.
Sun to Thu, 11:30am to 2am. Fri and Sat, 11:30am to 3am. Kitchen closes 11:45pm Sun to Thu and 12:45am Fri and Sat
A veteran-owned brewery and taproom on East Post Road, built into a corner storefront with the tanks visible from the bar. The house list runs to a dozen or so of its own beers, and the kitchen turns out smash burgers and wings rather than pretending food is an afterthought. It is the closest door to the comedy club of anything in this batch.
Mon and Tue, closed. Wed and Thu, 4pm to 10pm. Fri, 3pm to 12am. Sat, 12pm to 12am. Sun, 12pm to 8pm
