BalthazarKeith McNally opened this brasserie on Spring Street in April 1997 and it has run a French menu from breakfast through to midnight ever since. The distressed brass mirrors and the tin ceiling were built that way at the start rather than acquired with age. Bread and pastry are baked daily at the bakery on the same address.

The Ear InnA bar in a federal-era house at 326 Spring Street that has been serving since 1817, which puts it among the oldest continuously licensed bars in the city. The neon sign reads EAR because painting out part of the B on the old BAR sign avoided a Landmarks review. It does handmade burgers, and live music fills the place three nights a week.
