Russ & DaughtersJoel Russ moved his appetizing shop to this corner of Houston Street in 1920 and the fourth generation of the family runs it now. Smoked fish is sliced to order behind a counter you take a number for. There is nowhere to sit.

Josie'sOpened in August 2012 in the old Joe's Bar, which closed when its proprietor died. The people behind Mona's and Sophie's took it on, refinished the bar, and put the checkerboard floor and the wallpaper back in their original patterns rather than choosing new ones. Pool table and a jukebox.
