Odets wrote it in three days for a one-night benefit and the audience joined the final chant. It is built as a series of short scenes inside a union meeting, so it moves faster than most plays of its era. Classic Stage tends to take the politics at face value rather than as period texture.

Tin ceilings above a long mahogany bar, and a burger that has not changed much. The upstairs is where you go when the bar is three deep.
