Kings County DistilleryKings County started distilling in 2010 and now works out of the old Paymaster Building inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with a bar in the 1896 gatehouse at the Sands Street entrance. Whiskey comes as flights or straight pours. There are cocktails, while the rest of the list stays with New York wine and beer. Bottles are for sale by the door. Production-floor tours run on select evenings and have to be booked ahead, but the bar itself is walk-in every day.

Putnam's Pub & CookerA corner pub on Myrtle at the Clinton Hill end, with a full kitchen, a long bar and windows onto the avenue. It opens at 11am seven days and runs to 2am Monday through Saturday, with happy hour from four to seven. For anyone walking out of the Navy Yard it is the first real bar you reach.
