The High Line, 23rd Street lawnThe widest stretch of the High Line, where the planting gives way to a shallow lawn and a set of timber steps people sit on facing west. The 23rd Street access at Tenth Avenue has both a stair and an elevator. From here the walk north goes past the gallery blocks and arrives at Marquee's corner without touching a sidewalk. Free, and nothing to book.

Chelsea Square RestaurantA corner diner on West 23rd near Ninth that trades every hour of the week. Booths along the windows, a counter with stools, laminated menus and pancakes available at four in the morning. Nothing in the fit-out has been updated in a long time and the turnover of staff looks about as slow. It is the nearest all-night table to the gallery blocks.
