The Read

A Nashville band that holds a weekly residency at home and plays with the looseness that produces. The musicianship is high and worn lightly.

The Venue

The Bitter End

147 Bleecker St

The Bitter End's red brick backdrop frames a Greenwich Village stage shared by generations of songwriters, bands and comedians.

Before

Arturo's Coal Oven Pizza

0.1 mi · 1 min walk - Greenwich Village

Arturo Giunta opened this in 1957 on MacDougal Street and moved it to the corner of Houston and Thompson in the early sixties. His children Lisa and Scott run it now. The oven is coal-fired, pizza is sold only by the whole pie, and there is live jazz at the bar from seven every evening.

After

Mamoun's Falafel

0.2 mi · 4 min walk - Greenwich Village

A narrow counter on MacDougal that has been selling falafel sandwiches since 1971. You order at the register, take it to one of the few stools or eat it walking. The hot sauce is the part people come back for and it is served from a squeeze bottle, not a ramekin.
