John Jay ParkA small park east of York Avenue on 77th, on the block called Cherokee Place, stepping down toward the river, with an outdoor pool and a playground and benches under the trees. It is the closest green space to Bohemian National Hall by a wide margin. There is nothing scenic about the approach and the park itself is a genuine relief from the avenues.

Bel Aire DinerA full Queens diner on 21st Street with a counter, booths and a menu that runs from eggs to souvlaki to a slice of pie. It opens at five in the morning and closes at two most nights, which makes it the default answer in this part of Astoria at an hour when everything else has shut. In warm months the parking lot has been used for rooftop film nights and drive-in screenings.
