Allan's BakeryA third-generation Guyanese bakery that has been on this stretch of Nostrand Avenue for more than sixty years, directly across from Bar Bayeux. Pine tarts, currant rolls, cheese straws and black cake go across the counter in a paper bag, and there is a small cafe next door at 1107 if you want to sit with a coffee. Everything is priced in single dollars and the line moves at the speed of the register.

Tip-Top Bar & GrillWalter Alston opened this as a pool hall in the early 1950s and his daughter Linda Greer runs it now. The jukebox plays seventies R&B, the Christmas lights and the birthday banner stay up all year, and a shot with a beer is five dollars. Thursday is snacky hour, when the wings and hot sausages are free.
