Essex MarketThe city opened this market in January 1940 to move the pushcart peddlers off the Lower East Side streets, and it crossed Delancey into a new building in 2019. Around thirty independent vendors sell under one roof. You can eat for very little or buy groceries and leave.

2AA plain corner bar at Avenue A and 2nd, open since 1985 in a building that went up in the late 1860s as the Teutonia Savings Bank. The ground-floor windows run nearly the full height of the wall. Upstairs is a lounge called Old Flings. Berlin, the music venue, is the basement of the same building.
