Shape The Night

Before

Lorca

0.2 mi · 3 min walk - Stamford

Leyla Dam Jenkins grew up in Spain, went back to Sevilla to learn to make churros at a small shop there, and opened this on Bedford Street. The churros come out hot with a cup of thick chocolate to dip them in, and the coffee is single-origin from roasters like Sey and Onyx, pulled as a cortado more often than anything else. It began as a sixteen-seat counter and took the space next door in 2020, so it now runs to around forty seats and you can usually sit down.

After

Curley's Diner

0.2 mi · 4 min walk - Stamford

A 1947 Mountain View diner car parked on West Park Place since 1941, run since the 1960s by two Greek sisters, Maria Aposporos and Eleni Begetis. When the city's redevelopment commission moved to condemn the building around 1999, they fought it to the Connecticut Supreme Court and won in 2002, and the diner is still on its original corner because of that. The menu runs all day from eggs and a burger to souvlaki, and the counter is the same counter.
