Chelsea Waterside ParkThe green at Eleventh Avenue and 23rd, part of Hudson River Park, with a turf field, a free public basketball court, a playground and one of the bigger dog runs in Manhattan. Benches face the river. It is the nearest grass to the gallery blocks and to the two West Chelsea venues, and none of it costs anything.

Westside TavernA long bar on West 23rd between Eighth and Ninth, going since 1997, with pool tables at the back and a jukebox somebody is always feeding. Its own site describes the regulars as the point and says they are there every day until four in the morning. Cheap beer, no cover, nobody at the door. It sits on the same block as the 24-hour diner, so the two work as a pair after a late set.
