Before
La MoradaThe Saavedra family's Oaxacan restaurant on Willis Avenue, where the moles are made from scratch and there is a lending library of several hundred books in the dining area. The family are undocumented and have been open about it for years, and the place ran a free kitchen through the pandemic that fed tens of thousands of people. It is a small storefront with a handwritten feel.

Yankee TavernA bar on East 161st that opened in 1927, the same year as the original Stadium across the street, and has been feeding and watering the same crowd since. It is a long wood bar with televisions and photographs everywhere. The menu starts with wings and burgers. Sandwiches fill out the rest. On game days it is packed solid and there is a line on the sidewalk. On any other day you walk in and sit down.
