Café BilboquetPhilippe Delgrange opened this as the relaxed counterpart to Le Bilboquet, his restaurant of the same name a block away. Fourteen hundred square feet across the ground floor and the basement, doing coffee and pastries during the day and salads, sandwiches and quiche through lunch, with wine, beer and champagne if the afternoon goes that way.

P.J. Clarke'sEstablished in 1884, and the reason it still looks like 1884 is that the owner would not sell. A 47-story tower went up around it in the late 1960s and the original building lost its top two floors rather than the whole thing. Buddy Holly proposed to his fiancee here in 1958.
