Playback: The King of Comedy

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · 2:00 PM · BAM Rose Cinemas, Brooklyn

The Read

It failed on release and is now the Scorsese film that looks most like the present. De Niro plays delusion without any wink. The ending is ambiguous in a way the studio hated.

The Venue

Shape The Day

Before

Junior's Restaurant

0.4 mi · 9 min walk - Downtown Brooklyn

Harry Rosen opened Junior's on the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb in 1950 and his family still runs it. The front is a bakery counter selling cheesecake by the slice and the whole, and the back is a large dining area of orange booths with waiters and a menu that goes from a brisket sandwich to a full dinner. It opens at 7am and runs to 11pm, and on a weeknight you are seated as soon as you walk in.

After

Fourth Avenue Pub

0.4 mi · 9 min walk - Boerum Hill

Twenty-seven taps and a long bottle list on Fourth Avenue a few doors from Bergen Street, with a walled back yard of picnic tables that is open in the warm months. Bowls of popcorn sit on the bar. There is no kitchen, and it runs to 4am most nights. It is the closest late bar to Roulette by a wide margin.
