Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

short ride recommended · 6 min - Gowanus

The Brooklyn branch of the barbecue business John Stage started from a motorcycle-rally pit in Syracuse in 1988. It is a big loud space on Union Street with long tables, a full bar and ribs by the rack or the quarter. You can put your name down and drink while you wait, or eat at the bar on your own.

Walter Alston opened this as a pool hall in the early 1950s and his daughter Linda Greer runs it now. The jukebox plays seventies R&B, the Christmas lights and the birthday banner stay up all year, and a shot with a beer is five dollars. Thursday is snacky hour, when the wings and hot sausages are free.
