Before

Mill River Park

0.4 mi · 8 min walk - Stamford

The stretch of restored riverbank that runs along the west edge of downtown, with paths on both banks of the Mill River and a carousel in a glass pavilion at the middle of it. A grove of cherry trees survives from the old park and flowers in April. In winter the lawn beside the carousel becomes an outdoor skating rink run by the same nonprofit that maintains the park.

After

Curley's Diner

0.2 mi · 4 min walk - Stamford

A 1947 Mountain View diner car parked on West Park Place since 1941, run since the 1960s by two Greek sisters, Maria Aposporos and Eleni Begetis. When the city's redevelopment commission moved to condemn the building around 1999, they fought it to the Connecticut Supreme Court and won in 2002, and the diner is still on its original corner because of that. The menu runs all day from eggs and a burger to souvlaki, and the counter is the same counter.
