Lower East Side, in Manhattan
Dixon Place
Off-Off-Broadway / Experimental · 161A Chrystie St
Puppetry, dance, readings and unfinished experiments share the bill at Dixon Place, where seeing work develop is part of the attraction.
Ellie Covan began the project as a Paris apartment salon in 1985, then brought it to her New York home. The organization dates its local programming to 1986.
Today the Lower East Side venue presents artists at different stages of a project's development. A cocktail lounge and gallery extend the Chrystie Street space beyond its main stage.
