Theater District, in Manhattan
Gershwin Theatre
Broadway house · 222 W 51st St
The Gershwin pairs Broadway-scale spectacle with a theater-history detour: its rotunda displays the names and photographs of Hall of Fame performers.
Opened as the Uris in 1972, the theater took its current name in 1983 to honor composer George Gershwin and lyricist Ira Gershwin.
Wicked arrived in October 2003. Earlier productions ranged from Sweeney Todd to Starlight Express, whose skating performers made extensive use of the large auditorium.
