Greenwich Village, in Manhattan
Comedy Cellar
Comedy Club · 117 MacDougal St
The MacDougal Street basement runs stand-up seven days a week, putting comics with national credits on the same bill as people still working material out.
The format is a lineup of several comics per show rather than one name for the night, which is why a drop-in from somebody recognizable can happen on an ordinary Tuesday without being advertised.
The club caps parties at eight on MacDougal Street, on the reasoning that larger groups talk through a set without meaning to. Seats left after confirmed reservations are seated go out at the door at show time.
