East Village, in Manhattan
Nightclub 101
Occasional Screening Host · 101 Avenue A
The Pyramid Club held 101 Avenue A from 1979 until 2020. Nightclub 101 took the space over and put a stage back into it.
The Pyramid's decades there shaped East Village drag, and Lady Bunny and RuPaul both worked the place early. Bands including Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers played it on the way up.
The new operators kept a reference to that: the doors between the bar and the main space carry pyramid cutouts. Behind them is a new stage and a rebuilt sound and lighting setup.
The bill now runs live music, DJ sets, themed dance nights and art shows, with film screenings turning up among them rather than on a fixed schedule.
