A museum on upper Fifth Avenue given entirely to New York City, its subject the place's own character and its habit of perpetual transformation.

Recent exhibitions have covered more than 250 years of activism in the city and the living cultures of the Lenape, the people whose land New York was built on. Programming tends to follow whatever is up on the walls.

Education is written into the mission. The Schwarz Education Center runs school programs, out-of-school-time programs, family programs and teacher workshops, all led by trained museum educators.

Screenings and talks sit inside that frame, so a film here is usually tied to a subject the museum is already working on rather than to a release schedule.
