Counterpoint Records & Books
Shops

A two-level used bookshop on Franklin with a record store downstairs and a rare book area at the back. Stock is dense enough that nothing is alphabetised as neatly as you would like. It has been on this block since the 1970s.

Daily, noon to 8pm

La Poubelle
Food

Jacqueline Koster opened this on Franklin in 1969 with crepes and omelettes and Edith Piaf on the stereo, and her daughter Francoise runs the kitchen now. It is a full bistro with a long bar that keeps pouring after the kitchen shuts. The back patio is where people end up.

Daily 5pm to 2am, kitchen until 11pm

The Oaks Gourmet
Coffee

A corner market on Bronson with a coffee counter and a short kitchen menu, plus a wine and beer selection you can drink in or carry out. The breakfast burrito is the order in the morning and there are nightly specials after that. Tables are indoors and on the sidewalk.

Daily, 8am to 9pm
