Adolf Dulan's soul food counter on Crenshaw, where you move along a steam table picking three sides against smothered chicken, oxtails or short ribs. The cornbread comes with the plate and the greens are cooked down properly. It has been a Crenshaw institution for decades and the line at one in the afternoon is a line that moves.

A barbecue counter on Slauson that has been smoking ribs and hot links for South Los Angeles since 1975, with sauce hot enough that the mild is a real choice. You order through a window into a small waiting area and most of the trade is takeout. The sandwiches are heavy and the rib tips come by the pound.
