A Jamaican kitchen in Leimert Park Village run by the Mills family since the late nineties, doing jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtails and ackee with saltfish. Plates come with rice and peas and fried plantain. The space is small and warm and the reggae is on, and on a Saturday afternoon the village outside is at its busiest.
Tue to Thu, 11am to 8pm. Fri and Sat, 11am to 9pm. Sun, 11am to 7pm. Closed Mon
The Earle brothers have been selling sausages on Crenshaw since they started from a cart in 1984, and the counter now runs beef, turkey, Polish and a vegan line with chili and slaw on top. You order at the register and take a tray to a table. It is the kind of address people from the neighborhood have been using their whole lives.
Mon to Sat, 10:30am to 9pm. Closed Sun
The small triangular plaza at the head of Degnan that anchors Leimert Park Village, with a 1930s fountain in the middle and shade trees around it. On Sunday afternoons the drum circle sets up here and has for decades, and on most other days there are vendors and people sitting. The streets off it hold what is left of the village's bookshops and galleries.
