A deli on Ventura Boulevard since 1957, second generation in the same family, with a menu long enough to take a few minutes to read and a counter selling by the pound. The house line is that every sandwich is a work of Art, which tells you the register. Booths, matzo ball soup, pastrami cut thick, and a crowd of Valley regulars who have been coming since the 1970s.
Daily, 8:30am to 8pm
Two yellow Union Pacific passenger cars parked on Ventura Boulevard, serving chili dogs and burgers out of the galley since the 1970s. You order at the window, eat at a counter inside the car, and the whole thing takes twenty minutes. The Sunset Boulevard original came first and this is the second car. Mustard on wax paper, no table service, no ambition beyond the hot dog.
Daily, 11am to 10pm
A walk-up taco stand on the Coldwater Canyon corner with a covered patio and a window you order at. It opened as the cheap arm of Hugo's on Santa Monica Boulevard and has outlasted plenty of things around it. Open 9am to 9pm every day, which covers breakfast burritos and a late dinner with the same menu board.
Daily, 9am to 9pm
Charles Vitello opened this on Tujunga Avenue in 1964 selling sandwiches on bread he baked himself, and it grew into the Italian restaurant Studio City treats as its own. New owners took over in 2005 and added a cocktail lounge upstairs where jazz and cabaret acts play. Downstairs is still red sauce, veal and a waiter who has worked there a long time.
