10 stopsConnie Cossio's place on Imperial Highway does the Nayarit coast: pescado zarandeado, a whole butterflied snook grilled over wood, plus aguachile, smoked marlin tacos and shrimp. It is a low building with a patio and a bar, paper on the tables, and the fish comes out on a board for the table to pull apart. The zarandeado takes time, so order it when you sit down.
Mon to Thu, 10am to 8pm. Fri to Sun, 11am to 9pm
Adolf Dulan built his name on soul food across South Los Angeles, and this Manchester Boulevard location carries it on under his family. You read the steam table, point at what you want, and carry the tray to a table. Oxtails and smothered chicken bring people back. Peach cobbler does too. The restaurant fills up with Inglewood regulars rather than with arena traffic.
Every day, 11am to 8pm
Fifty-five acres of Inglewood park, renamed for the city's first Black mayor. Sports fields, tennis courts, a playground, an Olympic-size pool and enough paths to walk for half an hour under mature trees. It is where Inglewood actually spends a Saturday, rather than a place anyone visits.
Every day, 8am to 8pm
A coffee shop on North La Brea with a kitchen doing eggs, toast and bowls until half two. Order at the counter, take a number, sit at a long table or outside. It is full of people working and meeting rather than people passing through, and it is the nearest real coffee to either arena.
Every day, 8am to 3pm. Kitchen stops at 2:30pm
Harold Sparks opened this on Centinela in 1983 and it has been Inglewood's breakfast table since. Chicken and waffles, salmon croquettes and grits come out of a small kitchen onto a short counter and a handful of booths. There is usually a wait on a Sunday and it turns over quickly.
Mon to Fri, 8am to 2pm. Sat and Sun, 8am to 3pm
Woody Phillips started this on Slauson in 1975 and opened the Market Street shop in 1995; his son Rodney runs it now. Meat comes off oak-fired brick pits onto steam tables and out over the counter, on a plate with links, beans and white bread. You order standing up and most people take it away.
Mon, 11am to 8pm. Tue to Sat, 11am to 9pm. Sun, 11am to 6pm
Store number 166, on Century west of Crenshaw, with a drive-thru and seating inside. This is the one store that is a walk from all three Inglewood venues rather than one of them: SoFi Stadium and YouTube Theater are seven-tenths of a mile in a straight line, Intuit Dome is six-tenths, the Kia Forum is just over a mile. It serves until 1am most nights and 1:30am on a Friday and Saturday.
Sunday to Thursday 10:30am to 1am, Friday and Saturday 10:30am to 1:30am.
The giant donut on the roof went up in 1953 and the stand under it has not changed shape since. You order at a walk-up window on the side of the building, there is no seating, and people eat standing next to their cars in the lot. It runs 24 hours a day, which is the whole reason to know about it in a part of Inglewood where almost nothing else does.
Open 24 hours, every day
A two-floor bar on Market Street with screens on every wall and a kitchen. A DJ comes on later. It opens at three in the afternoon and serves until one most nights and two on a Friday, which in downtown Inglewood is unusual. It exists because of the stadiums up the road and it makes no secret of that.
Mon to Thu, 3pm to 1am. Fri, 3pm to 2am. Sat, 3pm to midnight. Sun, 3pm to 1am
A working brewery on West Manchester with long tables in front of the tanks and a roll-up door onto the parking lot. It is a place you walk into and order a beer at the bar, with food trucks rather than a kitchen. Weekend closing runs to eleven, which is late by Inglewood standards.
Mon, 3pm to 8pm. Tue to Thu, 3pm to 10pm. Fri and Sat, noon to 11pm. Sun, noon to 9pm
