Boyle Heights
Acurrúcame Café
Coffee bar

A small coffee bar on Cesar Chavez two doors from The Paramount, doing espresso alongside drinks built on cafe de olla, horchata and Mexican chocolate. The pastries come in from nearby bakeries and there are a few tables and a counter. It opens at seven and shuts at six, so it is the morning and afternoon answer on this block.

Mon to Fri, 7am to 6pm. Sat, 7am to 4pm. Closed Sun

La Monarca Bakery
Mexican bakery cafe

The Boyle Heights branch of a Mexican bakery started by two friends from Mexico City, on Boyle Avenue just north of First Street. The case holds conchas and tres leches, with pan de muerto in season. The coffee is their own roast. It opens at six in the morning and stays open until ten at night every day, which on this side of the river is unusual.

Mon to Sat, 6am to 10pm. Sun, 7am to 10pm

Long Beach
Rose Park on Ocean
Espresso cafe

The newest of the three Rose Park Roasters cafes, on Ocean Boulevard a couple of blocks from the convention center. They roast their own, mostly light and single origin, and the 6am open makes it the earliest coffee downtown. Seating is indoors with a few tables on the sidewalk. The original shop is still going on 4th Street in Rose Park, which is where the name comes from.

Daily, 6am to 5pm

The Library A Coffee House
Coffeehouse

A Broadway coffeehouse lined floor to ceiling with second-hand books, mismatched armchairs and people who have clearly been in the same seat for three hours. It runs from six in the morning to eleven at night every day, which is a longer day than any cafe in Long Beach keeps. There is beer and wine as well as coffee, plus sandwiches and cake. Nobody will move you along.

Daily, 6am to 11pm

Hollywood
Groundwork Coffee
Narrow coffee counter

An eight-foot-wide storefront in a building put up for Wells Fargo Bank, one of the oldest multistory buildings in Hollywood. The company roasts its own coffee and there is a short breakfast and lunch menu. Seating is a handful of stools and a bench outside.

Daily 7am to 4pm, kitchen 7:30am to 3pm

Rosy Café
Hotel cafe

The daytime cafe at the Hollywood Roosevelt, rebranded from the Tropicana Café, open 8am to 3pm. The Tropicana Bar beside it runs 9am to 10pm. The pool it looks onto has a bottom hand-painted by David Hockney, and eating here does not require a pool pass.

Daily 8am to 3pm; the Tropicana Bar runs 9am to 10pm

Koreatown
Document Coffee Bar
Coffee bar

A bright corner cafe on Wilshire a few doors from the Wiltern, with a long bar and enough tables that people work here all day. Multi-roaster pour-overs alongside standard espresso drinks. It is the only serious coffee within sight of the Wilshire and Western corner.

San Pedro
Siren's Java & Tea
Coffee house

It runs seven in the morning to seven at night, every day, which is an unusually long day for this end of San Pedro.

Inglewood
Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen
Counter coffee shop

Newhall
Henry's Coffee
Coffee shop

A two-person coffee shop on Walnut, off the Main Street strip, run by Henry and Michelle, who put it plainly on their own site: they have been making coffee together for over ten years and married for four. Espresso, drip, a short list of pastries, a handful of seats. It is the kind of place where the person pulling the shot is the owner, which is not true of anything else within walking distance of the cinema.

Mon to Fri, 7am to 5pm. Sat, 8am to 4pm. Sun, 8am to 3pm

NoHo Arts District
Republic of Pie
Coffeehouse with a stage

A coffeehouse on Magnolia a block off Lankershim that sells whole pies and slices, sweet and savory, and runs live music on a small stage most nights of the week with no cover. Opens at 9am, which makes it the default place in the NoHo Arts District to sit for an hour before a curtain. Tables fill with people working and the music starts in the evening without anybody clearing the laptops out.

The Moon
Neighborhood café

A small café on the same block of Lankershim as the theater, open 8am to 8pm seven days. Mon to Fri, 8am to 3pm. Closed Sat and Sun

Canyon Country
dē cafe
Coffee shop

A coffee shop that opened on Soledad Canyon in August 2026, which makes it the newest thing on the strip and the only independent espresso counter east of Sierra Highway. Small, bright, a short menu, and the ratings so far are from a few dozen people rather than a few hundred, so read it as a new place rather than an institution. It shuts at 5pm.

Mon to Sat, 8am to 5pm. Sun, 9am to 4pm

Compton
Patria Coffee Roasters
Coffee roastery

Deanna and Geoffrey Martinez had been roasting and wholesaling in Compton since 2012 before they raised close to fifteen thousand dollars on Indiegogo and built out this Alameda Street storefront, which opened in 2018. Covina
Rad Coffee
Horror-themed coffee bar

A coffee bar decorated around horror movies and skateboarding, with pinball and arcade cabinets in the back. Pomona
Mi Cafecito Coffee
Mexican coffee bar

A small coffee bar on South Main run by a young couple, with a shaded canopy of seats out front and a few tables inside. The drinks lean Mexican, so cafe de olla, horchata, chocolate Mexicano and a dulce de leche latte sit alongside the nitro cold brew.
