The Read

The Flatliners made one album in 1972 that nobody heard for two decades, and the three of them have been circling each other ever since. Gilmore's voice is the strange one, a high lonesome quaver that sounds like it arrived from an earlier century. Hancock wrote a lot of what you will hear. McCabe's seats about 150.

The Venue

McCabe's Guitar Shop

3101 Pico Blvd

McCabe's turns the back of a Santa Monica instrument shop into a 150-seat stage for folk, bluegrass and Americana.

Shape The Night

Before

Gilbert's El Indio

Long walk · 0.5 mi · 10 min walk; 2 min ride - Santa Monica

Carmen and Gilberto Rodriguez bought an existing Pico Boulevard place called El Indio in May 1974 and added Gilbert's name to the sign. Both founders have since died and their nine children own it together. Tortillas are pressed in house and the bar runs on margaritas for people who live within a mile of it.
