Before
GuelaguetzaFernando Lopez opened Guelaguetza in 1994 and moved it to this Olympic Boulevard address in 2000, where it became the center of Oaxacan life in Los Angeles. The menu covers seven moles and tlayudas. A bandstand runs live music most nights. The James Beard Foundation named it an America's Classic in 2015, the first traditional Mexican restaurant to get one.

Cafe Brass MonkeyAmerican-style karaoke at the back of a Wilshire strip mall, running seven nights a week since 1971. One stage, one list, everybody in the same space rather than a private booth, which is the opposite of how most of Koreatown does it. Parking behind the building on Mariposa is free after 5pm with validation.
