Korean Bell of FriendshipA seventeen-ton bronze bell given by South Korea in 1976, hung in a painted stone pavilion on the bluff at Angels Gate Park. It looks straight out at the harbor mouth and Catalina on a clear day, and the lawn around it is mostly people walking dogs. The bell itself is rung only five times a year, so do not go expecting to hear it.

Godmother's SaloonThe same family has run this on Seventh Street for more than thirty years. A dark bar with a small stage at the back and cold beer. A rockabilly or blues act plays most weekends. It opens at noon and closes at two in the morning every day of the week, which makes it the only thing downtown that is still pouring when a Sixth Street show has let out and everyone else has locked up.
